Why Visual München
VISUALS REALIGN THE AUTOPILOT FOR CHANGE
VISUAL WHY – THE BRAIN PREFERS VISUALS TO CHANGE AND REMEMBER
Why is visualisation so powerful in change?
THE AUTOPILOT – LIKES HABIT. BUT NOT CHANGE.
This is what neurobiology says: our brain works with two different thinking styles, a conscious and a subconscious one. When we repeat a behavior/thought a few times, the brain shifts it from our conscious into the autopilot of our subconscious. Just to save energy. Once something lands here, we stop questioning it. Up to 70 % of our thoughts and actions are autopiloted like that. Regardless of whether it is appropriate or helpful for a new situation at hand.
A WORLD WITH TWO LANGUAGES
Conscious and unconscious thinking styles speak in two different languages. Our mind likes things to be tangible and prefers a precise choice of words. Our subconscious, on the other hand, is more colorful and prefers images that evoke emotions. This is why the combination of words and visuals is so fast and effective in realigning the autopilot in change.
Facts & figures! Visuals link the left and right hemispheres of the brain. In figures, it looks like this: 89% improved learning transfer & 64% faster decision making (Standford, 2001).
